The Indian Navy has inaugurated its first fully solar-powered base on the Minicoy island of Lakshadweep. Named INS Surya, the base runs entirely on solar and battery systems and includes desalination units, radar stations, and AI surveillance. It’s part of India’s “Blue Clean Initiative” to reduce military carbon footprints. The project also involved local community employment and coral reef protection. Defense analysts view this as a template for future island base development in strategic maritime zones.
